View our range of analogue, ISDN and VoIP GSM Gateways.
GSM Gateways, also known as Premicells or Fixed Cellular Terminals are devices that a mobile phone SIM card is inserted into that provides a standard telephony interface that can be connected to traditional phone products such as telephones and phone systems. The GSM device is acting as a gateway between the mobile phone technology and the traditional phone technology, thus the term GSM gateway.
These GSM Gateways provide analogue, ISDN and VoIP connectivity so can be connected to all types of business phone system.
As well as GSM Gateway solutions that offer voice calls, we also provide a range of GSM Desk Phones, 3G Routers and 4G Routers which all have in common the use of a wireless GSM, 3G or 4G network to deliver communications solutions as an alternative to wired services.
For many years GSM Gateways were installed to provide low cost calls to mobile phones. This is becuase calls using a SIM card and bundled inlcusive minutes on a mobile phone contract were cheaper than calling a mobile phone from a landline.
At the start of 2013, as a result of an OFCOM ruling, fixed line telephone providers have dramatically reduced the cost of calling a mobile phone from a landline. This means that the benefit of using a GSM Gateway for fixed to mobile call cost reduction has been reduced.
However, cost savings alone are not the only reason for using a GSM Gateway, many businesses will continue to utilise a GSM device as a backup to their traditional landlines so that they have a backup in the event of loss of service.
Another big use of GSM gateways is to provide communications links for temporary or remote offices such as construction site offices. Installing a GSM gateway in this environment is a quick and simple way to get telephone service and products like the Cellfax Plus which can provide fax over GSM are commonly used in this industry along with 3G and 4G routers, providing instant and flexible site communications using wireless mobile phone networks.
